How do I use Tallowmar soap, body butter and scrub?

Tallowmari kehahoolduskomplekt seebi, võide, koorija ja spaatliga

When I started Tallowmari, it was important to me that all the products be simple, natural, and effective. However, the reality is that natural products behave a bit differently than the sulfate- or chemical-laden versions sold in stores. That’s why I want to share a bit of my experience with you: what to expect, how to use them, and the tips that have helped me the most.

Soap, body and hair

When washing the body

The soap is suitable for daily use. It leaves my skin clean but not squeaky. The lather is dense, light, and creamy.

    • I use the soap by rubbing it directly onto the skin or using a sponge.

    • I rinse thoroughly; even a small amount of soap produces a rich lather.

    • Tip: after spending time in the sun, or in winter when my skin is drier, I prefer using body soap (it is creamier and even gentler on the skin).

When washing hair

I was surprised (and slightly disappointed) to find that my hair became frizzy and difficult to comb after the first few washes; today, I call this a transition period. This is a completely normal phenomenon as the hair and scalp adjust to the new routine, and it can last anywhere from a few washes to several weeks. You can read more about the transition period here. 👉 here

What did I do to make it go more easily?

    • At first, I alternated between store-bought shampoo and homemade soap so that my hair and scalp would gradually get used to it.

    • Sometimes (initially, every time) I use an apple cider vinegar rinse (1–2 tablespoons of vinegar per 0.5 liters of water); it makes the hair softer and a bit easier to comb through.

    • I wash my hair with soap twice in a row; the first wash removes dirt, while the second lathers better and leaves the hair feeling lighter.

    • I gave it time for the scalp's natural balance to restore itself, and after a couple of weeks, my hair was already lighter and more voluminous.
    • If my hair is frizzy, I apply a little beef tallow balm, melted between my palms, to the ends.

Body butter Galloway and Ruby Red Devon

To me, body butter is like a “little jar of magic.” It is highly concentrated and melts so pleasantly against the skin from body heat. At first, I applied too much at once and my skin felt terribly greasy, but now I use just a small amount, since I can always add more if needed. .

How I use it

    • I take a fingertip-sized amount, warm the balm briefly between my hands, and then apply it to the skin.

    • It feels especially nice to apply it to damp skin right after washing; I’ve noticed that it absorbs better that way, and you use less product, too.

    • I use it a bit more frequently on dry hands, elbows, and calves.

    • In winter, it is my indispensable daily companion; in summer, I tend to use it on dry skin or after tanning (though not on sunburn).

Tip: I also use body butter for overnight hand and foot care. I apply a thin layer before going to bed, and by morning, my skin is silky soft and restored.

Red Poll Face and Body Scrub

The scrub is simply so good; it’s like a two-in-one product - it exfoliates while also supporting the skin's protective barrier.
Sugar exfoliates gently; honey exfoliates as well and it moisturizes at the same time; beef tallow leaves the skin feeling nourished. Usually, I don't even need to use a moisturizer after exfoliating.

How I use it

    • I take a small amount with a spatula.

    • I apply it to damp skin and massage it in for two or three minutes.

    • I rinse off only the sugar and honey residues with warm water.
    • I gently pat my skin dry with a towel, leaving it silky and soft.

Some tips:

    • Before shaving: an exfoliant smooths the skin and helps prevent ingrown hairs.

    • Once or twice a week: exfoliating too often can actually irritate the skin.

    • Gentle movements: there is no need to rub hard; the sugar and honey do the job effectively on their own.

    • Pay attention to dry areas: see how your elbows, knees, and shins feel after using the scrub.

    • No cream is needed after washing: beef tallow and honey leave the skin soft and protected.

Important note
The oil in the scrub makes the shower floor slippery. I recommend always using the scrub carefully - either on a bath mat or by rinsing the floor immediately afterwards.

In my experience, the same rule applies to all three products: less is more. They are natural and concentrated, so small amounts are sufficient.

    • Washing your hair with soap requires patient adjustment and allowing time for a transition period.

    • Body butter melts the skin with warmth and deeply cares for the skin, leaving it soft and supple.

If you use them consistently and in the right amounts, I believe you will experience the same thing I did - a simple, natural, and effective care routine. 💛
